Sika Repair Mortars used on NHS Contract

Delivering Essential Concrete Repairs in a Live Hospital Environment

CSC Services successfully delivered a programme of concrete refurbishment works at the University Hospital of North Tees, using a range of Sika Repair Mortars to restore ageing structures. The project was completed within budget, to tight timescales and with meticulous planning to protect public safety and minimise any disruption to patient services.

The works focused on an older ward block built in the 1960s, where sections of cast in situ concrete had deteriorated significantly. Several areas showed advanced spalling with exposed reinforcement, creating both safety concerns and operational challenges for the Trust.

Client-Led Prioritisation and Careful Programme Planning

To help the Trust maximise available funding, CSC Services undertook a detailed survey to assess the condition of each failing area. Every defect was prioritised as Critical Red Risk, Red Risk or Amber Risk, enabling the Trust to target the most urgent repairs first while working within budget constraints.

The initial six-week programme required careful coordination around sensitive clinical areas, including a day case theatre and recovery ward. Maintaining uninterrupted patient care was essential, and all works were scheduled and managed to ensure hospital operations could continue safely.

Client Testimonial

The Design and Development Manager at North Tees and Hartlepool Solutions LLP commented:

“University Hospital of North Tees NHS Foundation Trust appointed CSC Services to undertake concrete repairs on an ageing ward block which was built in the 1960s. Over the years, the case in situ concrete walls have started to fail with concrete dangerously spalling in a number of areas, making lots of rebar clearly visible. Due to financial restrictions, I commissioned CSC Services to undertake a survey and prioritise each failing area rating them critical red risk, red risk and amber risk, so the Trust could tackle the worst areas first within the budget they had to spend.

The initial 6-week programme of work surrounding a day case theatre and recovery ward had to be carefully planned to minimise disruption, so that the clinical services could continue. CSC Services’ site team played a vital role in fulfilling this programme, providing an excellent quality of workmanship and have given the Trust the confidence that the building is safe until more funds can be raised to cover further work.”

Sika Repair Mortars

CSC Services used a range of Sika Repair Mortars and bonding primers throughout the project. Sika MonoTop 620 was installed to protect the structure from further carbonation and prolong the life of the building. We would like to thank Matty Hyson of Sika Liquid Plastics for his support throughout this contract.
