Project Overview

CSC Services delivered a comprehensive refurbishment package within Downhill Service Reservoir. Built in 1898-99, the covered masonry structure remains a strategically important part of the Wearside drinking-water network.

The challenge

Delivery combined confined-space working, potable-water hygiene controls and the conservation of original sandstone masonry and flag flooring, utilising Flexcrete 844. Careful selection of Regulation 31-compliant materials was essential.

Scope of works

Our approach

Works were sequenced around controlled access and treated-water hygiene requirements. Original joints and defects were prepared and repaired using compatible systems, while internal metalwork was renewed or recoated with materials suitable for potable-water contact.

Outcome

The programme addressed key ingress and water-quality risks, upgraded critical fittings and prepared the compartment for final flood testing, inspection and handback – helping extend the service life of this historic asset.
