Power Station Leak Sealing and Resin Injection
Leak Sealing & Resin Injection Refurbishment
CSC Services recently returned to Lynemouth Power Station to deliver a programme of essential leak sealing and resin injection works on behalf of Sir Robert McAlpine. Our teams were asked to support ongoing upgrades across the site as the station continues its transformation into a modern, biomass-fuelled power plant supplying low-carbon electricity to the National Grid.
This latest visit follows our successful coating installation to the materials handling facility and new rail intake area last year.
Supporting a Major Low-Carbon Energy Transition
Situated on the Northumberland Coastline, Lynemouth Power Station is undergoing a significant conversion from coal-fired generation to biomass. Once complete, it will contribute up to 390 megawatts of cleaner energy – a major step in supporting the UK’s decarbonisation ambitions.
This coastal environment and the site’s high-water table create challenges for structures across the facility. Our remit was to address water ingress, protect operational areas and ensure structural integrity remains at the highest standard.
Resin Injection to Stop Water Ingress
The project began with tackling persistent water ingress around the floor joints in the rail off-loader area. Exposure to coastal conditions had allowed groundwater to enter through key joints, risking operational disruption.
Our operatives used Normet’s TemPur 100 Resin Injection system to arrest the flow. This hydrophobic polyurethane reacts immediately when it encounters water, forming a rigid foam that blocks pathways and prevents future ingress. It’s solvent-free, environmentally safe and highly chemical-resistant – making it ideal for demanding power station environments.
Leak Sealing Across Six Biomass Silos
We also carried out targeted leak sealing around the metal rings and roof panels of six biomass silos, used to store the wooden pellets that fuel the station.
Sikaflex Pro-3, a high-performance, moisture-curing joint sealant, was chosen for its excellent mechanical strength and chemical resistance. Its elastic formulation ensures durable, long-term protection in areas subject to continual movement, vibration and weather exposure.
