From refurbishing water storage tanks to relining chemical tanks in nuclear power stations, CSC Services have over eighteen years of tank relining experience. CSC Services can repair and reline tanks across sectors. This includes effluent tanks, food and beverage tanks, filter tanks, tanks in confined spaces and tanks across the water and wastewater sector. Recent clients include EDF Energy, Anglian Water, United Utilities and the NHS.
Concrete, steel and fibre glass tanks can be refurbished. This will provide many years of effective service at a fraction of the cost of replacing a tank. Savings can be made on re-installation costs and charges connected with the safe removal of a failed tank. Tank refurbishment is also much faster than fully replacing a tank. Repair and relining work takes hours or days depending on the size of the vessel. By relining a tank, the internal surfaces will be left with a smooth, tough, ceramic, tile-like finish. This is both easy to maintain and clean. Reliability will be guaranteed.
CSC Services work in partnership with leading manufactures of tank coatings. All relevant product and application training is undertaken. This ensures the optimum solution can be offered. Are you looking to refurbish a steel tank, a concrete tank, a tank containing chemicals, or a tank that operates in extreme environments? CSC Services offer a range of epoxy tank linings which will be specified according to the type of tank and environment in which it operates. For concrete tanks, CSC Services use a range of cementitious coatings to provide waterproofing and resistance to carbonation.
Polyurethane coatings can be installed to stop leakage problems. This is common with larger, sectional steel water tanks. The mastic between joints can deteriorate and lose its elasticity. This can be catastrophic in many cases. A polyurethane coating will seal cracks, even those that the naked eye cannot see. Polyurethane tank coatings are often solvent free. They have a fast cure time and enable quick return to service.
Coatings can be specified to protect the tank against corrosion. Coatings with a high dielectric strength will restricts the passage of electrons and interrupt the process of ion transfer which causes corrosion. This can prevent against further damage. Bacteria (including legionella and biofilm) can be controlled by coatings, specifically designed to resist the growth of such bacteria.
In the UK, drinking water tanks need to be lined with products approved by the Drinking Water Inspectorate. CSC Services can provide DWI approved coatings complaint with Regulation 31, and WRAS approved tank linings for use externally on drinking water sites.
Temperature will impact upon the curing ability of the coating. Very humid conditions may have an adverse effect upon a tank lining. A cold-weather coating which permits curing in temperatures as low as -40ºC may be required depending on the time of year the programme is scheduled to take place. Polyurea lining can be applied at sub-zero temperatures.
Similarly, the temperature range of the coating will need to be considered if the tank is to store heated materials. Coatings can be permanently damaged by exposure to heat above the stated range. Polyurea technology has very fast setting times (5-20 seconds) and can be applied to any thickness in one hit, removing the need for a primer, or second coat. Both factors can enable rapid return to service.
The type of chemicals stored in a tank will need to be considered when specifying a tank lining. If the tank contents form a unique mixture, CSC Services can arrange for this to be tested accordingly. With high chemical resistance and a tolerance to high operating temperatures, Vinyl Ester tank linings are used in chemical processing and refinery environments due to its ability to withstand chemical attack even at elevated temperatures.
Our teams all have appropriate qualifications including SSPC Train the Painter – Gold level accreditation which covers protective coating application, spray painting and abrasive blast cleaning.
