The primary requirement of a high-performance coating is to provide protection by means of adhesion to the substrate. At CSC we offer a range of chemical coatings including roller-, brush- and spray-applied epoxy resin coatings, polyurethane, hybrid polyurea and 100% polyurea hot spray-applied coatings.
With high resistance to water and aggressive chemical environments, epoxy resin chemical coatings provide a cost-effective solution where qualities such as adhesion, abrasion and low shrinkage resistance are required. Epoxy resins are resistant to aqueous, acid and alkali environmental conditions. Curing times are however longer with epoxy resin coatings, ranging between 7 to 21 days depending on environmental conditions. This means that their use should be carefully considered if operating structures require a quick return to service.
Polyurea coatings have many great properties that make them ideal for a range of applications and sectors. Waterproof, and with high abrasion and chemical resistance, they are available in both hot- or cold-sprayed options and bond well to most materials and structures such as water tanks and reservoirs, CW cooling systems and storage tanks as well as pipework and bunds. Polyurea coatings are extremely quick to cure (20 seconds). They can also be applied in sub-zero temperatures, enabling repair and relining work to take place all year round.
Coatings are often one of the most fundamental parts of a structural protection or anti-corrosion system. Correct adhesion and sufficient thickness of coating is crucial and dry film thickness (DFT) measurement is an essential part of chemical coatings application. This ensures that a coating has been applied to the minimum requirements according to manufacturer for the environment and structure in which it is being applied. At CSC we measure using destructive thickness and non-destructive measurements. These techniques do not harm the coating surface. We also measure wet film thickness to ensure correct standards are achieved.
