Mark Lemon, CSC Services’ Managing Director along with Contracts Director Mick Flounders attended a CPD Seminar on Concrete Repair and Strengthening.
Organised by the Structural Concrete Alliance the seminar included an introduction to corrosion as well as techniques for concrete repair, protection and strengthening.
As a specialist contractor offering refurbishment services to the UK water and power sectors, such CPD events allow CSC Services to keep up to date with the latest technologies, products and application techniques.
Jamie Best, Flexcrete’s Technical Sales Engineer gave an introduction to the British Standard BS EN 1504. Within BS EN 1504 there are various sections covering elements of concrete repair, such as quality control, testing and materials. The key parts set out testing and compliance definitions for manufacturers; specification guidelines and material application guidelines for contractors. All of CSC Services’ operatives undertake regular training on the Repair and Protection of Reinforced Concrete Structures in Accordance with BSEN1504 which is approved by the Institute of Concrete Technology.
Jamie went on to outline a number of practical projects where the latest advances in cementitious technology have been used. CSC Services regularly use such products and have recently completed work at Lynemouth Biomass Power Station for client Sir Robert McAlpine. With enhanced chemical and abrasion resistance the Flexcrete cementitious coating system will guarantee the life-span of the steelwork at the plant for twenty years.
There was also an introduction to the use of advanced composites in structural asset protection and repair by Paul Russell from product manufacturer Mapei with with some insightful case studies and examples.
Finally, Chris Moxam from BASF Underground Construction provided an introduction to sprayable waterproofing membranes.
